Infidelity...

Sorry for the lack of updates. Life had been hectic and busy lately. In between work, traveling and friends visiting from out of town, I barely have enough time to sleep let alone write. >.<"

A few things happened though that got me thinking;
"has fidelity really lost its meaning and value?"

Let’s put it this way, being attracted to someone else is not a crime. Its a natural reaction, everything simply comes down to your self-control. The question is, what do you do with the attraction? Will you let that fleeting moment pass and not indulge in it or would you go ahead with it and wreck your existing relationship? At the risk of life time of pain and hurt and lack of trust to protrude, what is your limit in indulgent?

{images: one)
The one thing that I couldn't fathom, is the way our society had somewhat (though not openly) accepted infidelity as a normal happenings in life. Is this indicative of a wider unravelling of society as we know it or are we morphing into a nation of free lovers blithely bent on superficial brief encounters and wild polygamy? Hearts can be broken and affairs hurts people. It is not something to be taken lightly.

Whatever happened to the good old "till death do us part?"

Birthday Wishes to Felita

"As we walk our path of life,
We meet people everyday.
Most are simply met by chance.
But, some are sent our way.
These become special friends
...Whose bond we can’t explain;
The ones who understand us
And share our joy and pain.
Their love contains no boundaries.
So, even when apart
Their presence enhances us
With a warmth felt in the heart.
This love becomes a passageway,
When even the miles disappear.
And so, these friends, God sends our way,
Remain forever near."

Fel... Its been 4 years since this photo was taken but I'm sure for us, there'll be more pictures like this 4 years and years down the road.
Happy Birthday once again!!!

On a Side Note; How love pan out sometimes...

I actually teared up when i was watching this video. Its like watching my past relationships replayed itself before me. It makes me think, can I go through the whole stages all over again? Every failed relationships, left a gaping hole that slowly recovered over time. No doubt that I've managed to be friends with some of my exes but the pain and the hurt has never fully healed somehow. Bittersweet Memories.

Sick...

{image: rachelle vance}
Dear all,

I've been bed ridden (almost) for the past few days. Runny nose, giddiness, no appetite, body aches... and the list goes on... Been popping so many panadols, I think I might have overdose on them. So I'd like to call in sick and take a few days off from the world.

Ta ta world, see you when I feel better...

XOXO,
sickly nez

On a Side Note; Social Detox

I got some time to think about certain things.
One of those includes....a social detox.
And by that, I mean, cutting toxic friends/people out of your life.
Given the recent saga of me getting emotionally hurt and betrayed by an unexpected someone, I've decided that I will not let people run over me anymore.
I've realized that people who keep pushing your buttons just aren't worth keeping in your life.
Neither are people who are only around you for their own reasons.
And it's time to give a boot to people who don't respect your feelings and constantly say things to undermine you so that they feel better about themselves.
So I've clicked a few "Block Contact" on my MSN today...
Bye-bye, bad-news!
Because, contrary to what L'oreal says, you're NOT worth it!

On a Side Note; Speechless

I spent the whole of wednesday thinking why some people change and why some people lie. When I woke up the next day, I came to realize that it's not your fault when they change or when they lie. Few days ago, I came to some revelation that one of my close friends lied to me about something. It was a very bad feeling. And that has coupled with my underlying sentiment that she has changed into such a self-centered, deceiving, fake person.
Someone I don't know anymore...

So disappointing...

she risked so many relationships with people around us, is it even worth doing so? But is it fair for me to judge someone when I am not perfect myself?

On a Side Note; Involuntary Dieting

Been down with food poisoning since Wednesday. I barely ate for the past two days.
And I could hardly keep my food down either. The most nourishing food I've had for the past 2 days was 100ml of concentrated bird nest. Now I know, in a true case of food poisoning, you don't feel hungry at all.

It's Day 3 and I'm feeling a lot better. I had a real meal for breakfast and I almost forgot how good food actually tastes. Lesson learnt: Wash your hands before digging into seafood!

On a Side Note; ...Karma

A little unhappy incident happened yesterday and it prompts me to think about something:

are some girls nasty because they are not happy,
or are they not happy because they are nasty?

I believe in karma. I think there is a cause-and-effect relationship in everything.
If you give generously to people around you, you receive generously from them as well.
If you are mean to others, then obviously others wouldn't be very nice to you either.
If you are always being competitive with others and get eaten up by your bitterness when you don't get what others have, then you would always be unhappy.
If you impose unrealistic expectations on your partner and only look at what he cannot provide you, then you would never be happy with him.

So why get caught up in this vicious cycle when you can break out of it on a whim?

So what if you "win"?
Is it worth all the agony you go through?
Will that, really, make you happy?

On a Side Note; On Happiness

I remember reading an article on Vogue some time ago. The writer suggests that how beautiful women and plain janes experience their happiness in different stages of life. I can't find the original article. But let me try to summarize it. According to the article, beautiful women tend to be more fulfilled in the early stages of their lives because they are, as mentioned, beautiful and desirable. Their attractiveness makes their goals and dreams easily within reach. Yet, this "convenience" tends to cultivate the habit of heavily relying on looks instead of talents.

Time passes; people age. By the time they realize their looks are no longer functioning as their "key to success", they also find themselves in a pathetically embarrassing situation of having neither talents or skills to perpetuate their success. Their confidence and "happiness" plummet as a result of that. As the famous saying goes, "the higher you are, you harder you fall".... Plain-janes, on the other hand, enjoy higher degree of happiness as they mature. Lacking mesmerizing looks, their aspects of life - be it their social life or professional advancement - do not evolve or revolve around appearance. Talents and interpersonal skills become essential to their survivals. Unlike beauty that fades with age, talents and skills are polished over the years. Their "happiness" brought by their own achievements is not compromised by age.....

Well, that's about it... While I find her argument interesting, I can't hold it as the "eternal truth". Happiness is a feeling - a subjective, abstract variable. You can "compare" your OWN degree of happiness on any two given days, but you cannot compare that between two individuals.

Happiness is not measured - it is perceived or "learned" as I've come to realize through these years . And what the writer says about the different paths they take in achieving personal goals; how beautiful women assumably manufacture their success on the basis of attractiveness; how plain-janes acquire skills in the rivalry against the beautiful - is plain generalisation. In the first place, their so-called paths are in fact, well, their attitude.

Attitude shapes your destiny. But attitude has little - if not nothing - to do with appearance. You can be a plain jane while being equally ignorant as a dumb blonde. (And please, gimme a break and drop that romantic image of "Plain-janes the Underdog V.S. The Dumb and the Beautiful". ) What I have learnt in life is: you can't create "happiness" in your life but you can be HAPPIER by zooming out on a bigger picture and focusing on the positive aspects. Things might not have been the best, but I promise they could be worse.

I do have regrets or things I'd love to change in life. I might not have the happiest childhood; I might not have spent the best and worst days with my family during my high school; It would have been nicer if I didn't have to face a certain overbearing aunt everyday for 8 years; My relationships could have been nicer.. I thought I had one of the toughest paths in this world. I was unhappy because I didn't know what I've got.

I grew up with bunch of sheltered well-to-do kids, totally unaware of the cruel world outside. When I questioned how a family survive on a mere SGD$1800 a month, I wasn't being a snob - I was plain ignorant.

The bottom line is: I can't complain.

I've gone through a lot more - the good ones, the bad ones - than many of my counterparts. Without my dad living in a suitcase and making all that money, I couldn't have afforded this comfortable life. I'm well-travelled; have enough education; have loving family and friends...

Everything I have is given to me.
And like when you receive any gift, you say "thank you".
Today I woke up, I told myself it would be a good day.

On a Side Note; Preaching a Non-believer

K*: Why do you spend so much on shoes? They wear out from walking anyway...
Me: Don't you look down as you walk? Every step you take reminds you how ugly your shoes are...
K*: Yeah, but eventually they wear out and become just another pair of "ugly shoes".
Me: That's why we keep buying, my dear.
His reactions are worrying me - not just because of his attitude towards shoes, but can you imagine that kind of negative thinking being extended to every other thing in life?
Soon he'll stop taking a shower because he'll come to realize that we're bound to get filthy as the day goes on anyway

On a Side Note; Self Mutilation

For the 110th times, I swear:

I will not prick/pop/squeeze/pluck my blackheads again!

I had an unstoppable week-long self-mutilation of squeezing/pricking/popping/plucking blackheads on my face with my laura mercier tweezer.

It started with a few small blackheads. Then the pricking turned the blackheads into a cluster of red swollen papules, but it wouldn't stop me from popping them. So I went on and on until these papules started to take over my once zit-less, smooth face.

"They'll go. No biggie." I was in a foul mood but I was still, well, hopeful.

But a day past, a week went by. The papules hadn't gone down a bit. They were so bad that even my cle de peau cream foundation wouldn't help.

I started to panick. I rushed to my derm. He lectured me for my self-mutilating behaviour and put me on antibiotics to clear the infection.

This is DAY 2 and I'm already seeing some improvement. The redness has gone down by a notch but the medication has left me feeling so lethargic and grumpy.

Few more days to go til I finish the whole course, but it'll just be the beginning of my road to recovery (i.e. getting rid of the scars)

It's ok... My skin will heal - like it always has.

But why, oh why am I doing this to myself...over and over again?

On a Side Note; Alcohol-ban; Another lame attempt

I turned down all the friday outings for the sake of my health. All the late nights, alcohol, smoke and late snacks - I'd be getting wrinkles all over my face and a wrecked liver before I knew it.
So I rotted at home, splendidly in my pajams and secretly admiring myself for my self-discipline.
Hours past and by 2:00am I was bored to the point that I was beginning to get grumpy. I'd have ended my friday night with a good fight with my bf if not because of his exceeding patience.
Went to MOS with the usual group on Sat....the club was packed as usual but clubbing is just so BORING without alchohol.
So I think if I'm to cut down on alcohol, I'd have to stay away from clubs for the time being...
What's the next best thing to do over the weekend besides clubbing? Embroidery? lol

On a Side Note; ...Confession of a Shopaholic

"OK. DON'T PANIC. Don't panic. It's only a VISA bill. It's a piece of paper; a few numbers. I mean, just how scary can a few numbers be?"
by Sophia Kinsella.
Wahahah. Unfortunately the numbers on this piece of paper translate directly into the number of DREADFUL working hours we need to pay off those debts....
